E847_21 - This experiment aims assessing the interest of using 8Li beams for therapy through the evaluation of production of water radiolysis species and the damages induced on biomolecules by the 8Li beam and the emitted alpha particles. The radiolysis products of amino acids and peptides in diluted solutions was identified and quantified under irradiation. They will be compared to those formed by low-energy protons and helium ions (< 6MeV/nucleon), previously measured at IPHC (Strasbourg) and NIRS (Chiba, Japan). The depth-dose profile of 8Li was measured with polymethyl methacrylate attenuators of different thicknesses placed in front of PIPS and scintillating detectors. A direct comparison with the effects of a stable 12C beam (produced in one-neutron removal reactions) was performed during the experiment.
